Practice Expertise Curtis Welch counsels individual, corporate and institutional clients in Washington and Oregon, with specialized service in construction law, insurance defense, real estate and commercial litigation, and creditor's rights.
Construction Law Curtis represents commercial contractors, material and labor suppliers, developers, homeowners and public entities. He provides extensive expertise advising clients involved in construction litigation, bond claims, contract claims and lien claims. Curtis is also experienced in drafting and negotiating many types of construction agreements.
Insurance Defense Curtis represents insurance companies and their clients in defense of claims. He has been practicing in this area of law since 1997 and has substantial experience advising large corporate and institutional clients in need of insurance law representation. He maintains an active litigation practice in state trial and appellate courts in Washington and Oregon and in private arbitration.
Real Estate Law Curtis provides clients with innovative, high-quality legal advice designed to bring his clients' broad range of real estate transactions to completion. Routinely assisting clients in the areas of acquisitions and sales, development, leasing, property management and construction. He represents clients in real estate-related dispute resolution in state courts in Oregon and Washington and before administrative agencies. Curtis also represents clients in arbitration and mediation forums.
Business Law Curtis has substantial experience representing clients in contract disputes, business and corporate disputes, and tort cases. He performs both trial and appellate work in these areas.
Creditor’s Rights Curtis is an experienced trial lawyer, successfully collecting sums owing to businesses and individual clients through litigation or post-judgment procedures.
Professional Experience Curtis has more than 20 years of professional legal experience. After becoming an attorney he worked for State Farm Insurance Company from 1987 to 1990 on cases involving claims made against the company's policyholders.
Professional Affiliations Curtis has been a member of the Washington State Bar Association since 1994, including the Procurement and Construction Section, and the Oregon State Bar Association since 1987, including the Construction Law and Corporate Law Sections. He is also a member of the Clark County Bar Association and served as President of the board of directors for the Southwest Washington Contractors Association. Curtis has also served as a member of the professionalism committee for the Multnomah County (Oregon) Bar.
Professional Qualifications/Education Admitted to practice law in Washington and Oregon, before the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, the United States District Court for the District of Oregon, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
